#FoodAllergyVotes: Make food allergy a priority – advocate now!
#FoodAllergyVotes is a grassroots advocacy campaign that is calling on the federal government to #MakeFoodAllergyCount and to invest in a comprehensive strategy to help the over 3 million impacted Canadians, and those who support them, live well with the condition.
We are asking every federal party to commit to supporting the National Food Allergy Action Plan. But we can’t do it alone. Your voice is needed to make #FoodAllergyVotes heard.
Priorities on the radar screen with federal government
The federal government has a role to play in food labelling, national standards in childcare, and public education efforts.
Are you frustrated by the lack of access to accurate ingredient information, limiting your ability to make informed decisions on which foods are safe for you and your family? Did you know one-third of anaphylactic reactions in children are attributed to food labelling-related issues? COVID-19 further highlighted gaps in access to accurate ingredient information when ingredient statements on online pre-packaged food did not consistently match the package received, making it difficult for the food allergy community to remain safe and avoid allergens. Everyone has the right to know what is in their food.
Are you concerned about the lack of understanding the broader community has on managing food allergy and how that can impact safety? You can help ensure everyone is educated on food allergy, including those working in childcare settings. It’s critical people who look after young children receive training on how to manage food allergy, as children may be experiencing their first serious reaction under their care. They need to know what to do and how to recognize and treat reactions. Help keep children safe.
The National Food Allergy Action Plan includes a comprehensive strategy on how to improve access to accurate ingredient information and on educating the broader community on the seriousness of food allergy. Help to get the National Food Allergy Action Plan supported by the federal government.
